Monsters of the Midway Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off

 
Another battle royal is brewing in the Midwest. Pumpkin growers from around the Midwest will compete for the $4,000.00 1st place prize in Siegel’s Cottonwood Farm’s Annual Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off starting at 11a.m., Saturday, Sept. 30th, 17250 Weber Rd. Lockport, IL 60441 (www.OurPumpkinFarm.com). Joe Adkins of Wheaton, IL won 2016’s big prize with a pumpkin weighing 1861lbs. 

Deemed “The Monsters of the Midway” by George Janowiak, the Illinois Giant Pumpkin Growers Association President, growers will clash their giant gourds at the Annual Pumpkin Weigh Off at Siegel’s Cottonwood Farm.  Back in the 90's Siegel's Cottonwood Farm hosted the first Pumpkin Weigh Off in Will County. Pumpkins have weighed in at over 1500 pounds in the past, the largest pumpkin grown in Illinois weighed in at 1,546 lbs! That’s the size of a Giant Tractor Tire that is five feet tall. 

Registration is from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 30 and the Weigh Off starts at 11a.m. Only one official entry per contestant. If same family farm, then each grower in the family must grow their own plants and pumpkins, individually. For $25.00 registration fee, entrants can weigh one official and one officially weighed exhibition pumpkin – 2 total, unless they want to pay $15 additional fee for any pumpkin to be officially weighed besides the 2 that come with the basic $25 registration fee.
